Tarmat UK is a family run business. Father and sons go back as far as 1976 working for some of the biggest surfacing companies in the UK, such as Amey Roadstone and McAlpine in construction on some major road building throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

We know about road making foundations and how to save customers money on replacing old surfaces, such as porous Tarmac and bad foundations. We understand that you can spend unnecessary money on roads, forecourts, even on private drives. We aim to give our clients great results at the best value for money.

Hot Tar and Chip / Surface Dressing

Many highway authorities throughout the UK extensively use the Tar and Chip process. This process consists of applying by specialist spraying equipment, a hot bituminous emulsion to an existing blacktop or concrete surface. When this bituminous emulsion is applied, hard clean aggregates are distributed.This combination of binder and hard stone is then rolled and trafficked to encourage embedding of the chippings to form a durable layer, protecting the older surface beneath against wear and water ingress. There are a choice of aggregates available for different aesthetics.

Re-tread or Double Dressing

This process is very similar to the hot tar & chip process, but instead of applying the bituminous emulsion to an existing blacktop or concrete surface, the binder is then sprayed on, or incorporated, to the unbound aggregate surface. Typical unbound surface suitable for re-tread / double dressing.

Re-Tread

Re-tread involves incorporating the first coat of binder into the aggregate with harrows then two more coats of binder are sprayed on, each followed by a dressing of hard, clean chippings, forming a thick layer of bound material sealing the aggregate beneath and provides a smooth running surface ideal for long driveways and roads.

Double Dressing

Double dressing is the same principal as re-tread with the deduction of an initial first coat of binder and harrowing taking place. Providing the same appearance, but not as thick.

A big drive that can hold fifteen automobiles was being broken up by tree roots, so they resurfaced it. They demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship, efficiency, and behaviour. Their cost was quite affordable, and the outcome is outstanding. Tarmat comes highly recommended.
